I usually try to keep this blog rant-free, but I keep seeing things like the stitch markers above and I’m tired of it. Am I the only one who has massive fucking issues with yarn snobbery? 

You realize that being a snob of any sort is not a good thing, right? It means you look down on people and feel superior to them for stupid, superficial reasons. You are not special. You get no cookies. You shouldn’t be proud—you should be ashamed of your classist douchery. 

Many people can’t afford merino wool or any of the other ~*~*luxury*~*~ fibers that you’re privileged enough to use exclusively. Some people have allergies. Some people don’t use animal products for moral and/or health reasons. Some people simply can’t justify spending over $200 on yarn to make ONE sweater when, for the same amount, they could buy a couple weeks’ worth of groceries or pay some bills. No matter the reason, no one should be shamed for using cheap yarn…especially since acrylics and more expensive fibers can both be used to make the exact same stuff.

Besides, acrylic yarns—including Red Heart Super Saver—are not as sandpapery as some yarn snobs claim. They may not be as soft as fucking bunny fur (ie: angora wool), but they are durable as hell, available in virtually any color you could ever need, and they’re easily accessible—and often on sale!—at chain stores like Walmart, Michael’s, Joann’s, AC Moore, etc. Plus, not only are acrylic yarns totally machine washable and dryable, but they actually get softer the more they are washed and used.

So stop focusing on and bragging about your yarn’s fiber content. Ain’t nobody here impressed, especially since throwing money at crafting does absolutely nothing to improve your skills. Instead, invest your time in learning new techniques, like fair isle or Tunisian crochet. Tackle a project more difficult than anything you’ve ever made before. THAT will earn you my respect.
